A.M. Scott Memorial Endowment

A.M Scott Jr. lived a life that decades after his death, his grandkids light up as they start to retell. His contributions and love for helping others set a precedence that would live on long after he was gone.

Thad Helsley remembers his grandfather fondly:

He came from a long line of McKinney citizens that were a part of the fabric of McKinney dating back to the 1840’s. He was a wonderful grandfather, mentor, boss, role model and genuine person. He loved McKinney and spent his life quietly serving his beloved community. His picture hangs in our office to this day.

We never questioned his love for us, anytime we needed him, he was always there. He treated family, friends and strangers the same - with never-ending generosity and grace.

I spent a lot of time with him throughout my life, especially as an adult. I was fortunate enough to work side by side with him for many years. There are not many days that go by that he does not enter my thoughts. I to this day when trying to determine how best to handle situations, challenges, opportunities or just the way I should treat somebody else ask myself how I think my grandfather would handle it.

That is why I wanted to endow a scholarship in his name. An endowment equals perpetuity. This was a way that I knew for certain that my grandfathers legacy of helping others would live on forever.

I very much appreciate the McKinney Education Foundation in keeping his legacy alive and those of so many others. The winners of his scholarship serve as a constant reminder to always help others. That is definitely something I know my grandfather would be very proud of.
